Hang in there...

...baby

Remember these posters?

Well...I've got a new era poster!

hee hee this just makes me smile.

Hair clips...not JUST for hair anymore

Never even saw this chrysalis until Saturday morning, minutes before the butterfly was going to emerge. I noticed it pupated on a dead leaf, the Santa Ana winds kicked up and this poor creature wouldn't have had a chance had I not run and grabbed a hair clip and secured the leaf to the lavender stalk.
This is not the first time I've had to secure chrysalis to something more stable. I actually have clips in different sizes. Thread and tape are my friends too! Just FYI, butterflies need to hang until their wings fill with fluid. If they fall (which I've caught more than a few) and not hung right back up, their wings will never fill and they'll never fly. Nature can be cruel, I make sure they have 1/2 a chance.
Right or wrong, I do it anyway.

Everyone east of us is enjoying Fall...{heavy sigh}
I have to live vicariously through a lot of you out there in Blogging land. I lick my chops at your cooler weather, your harvests and yummy homegrown fruit and vegetables. The calendar officially says Fall-but we don't get the memo till much later.
So thank you-Thank you for your medley of fall photos...someone out there (like me) truly savors them.

Happy (almost Fall) snapping
xo

  1. Love this Kelly, hehe, and you aren't the only one not experiencing fall...we won't get that memo for quite some time. . .was still in the 90's today, although the mornings are just right!

  2. Yes I am enjoying Fall temps, BUT if it makes you feel any better...I'm sure you won't be licking your chops when I post a photo of me shoveling snow for the umpteenth time in February! Ugh! Oh "I wish we all could be California girls " :)

  4. Such a beautiful post for me to read today. Sometimes I feel like I am that butterfly that has wings but cannot fly...I suppose I just need to hang in there a little longer... Beautiful shot. And I your pain about the fall weather...4 years in LA almost killed me...I love the crisp twinge in the air as the seasons change.

  5. If it makes you feel any better....right after this beautiful Fall we're having here in the northeast comes ice and slush. Not quite so pretty then! Your ferris wheel photo is GORGEOUS! I love the softened colors and the texture.

  6. I love your version of "hand in there baby". I actually have hair clips holding my orchid to the stick - I knew I kept my daughter's hair clips for more than a shot at a guest appearance on 'Hoarders'.

The fall weather is wonderful (provided we do not slip back into the 80s - then I will have to crank the air conditioning back on - ugh!). Time to dig out the decorative pumpkins (I will do so with you in mind).

    Enjoy!

  11. Oh I love your version so much! It's funny because my grandma has one of those posters with the kitten hanging in her living room. One of my sisters got it for her when we were little :)

I hope fall will decide to come earlier for you this year!

  13. I have a door hanger that says something like "when you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in the end and hang on..."
Those monarchs are lucky to have you for a mom. :)

  16. Your butterfly 'hanging-on' photo is a wonderful capture! And that last one.... Man, that is one of my all time favorite photos. I guess you're not only a butterfly mama but a McGyver, too.

  17. I love that "hanging on" butterfly....could be a beautiful metaphor for life....I guess butterflies do teach us lots of lessons don't they. I am so proud of you for taking such care of those who fall or might fall.....
