I'm happy to report that I'm typing on a new Mac-
Holy cow- what a difference a decade makes in laptop screens! Not only am I using a new laptop, I went from PSE 6 to PSE14...a lot has changed since #6! I love all the new features the program has to offer-even though it's a tad overwhelming learning a newer way of editing. I'm a creature of habit so really the best way for me to learn anything new is to just get in there and play.
Reading tutorials is just not my thing!
I went into my archives for this week's photos because I just didn't shoot anything new. The new PSE has a dozen or so photo effects to choose from. I played around with a few of them and applied a vintage and a light leak effect to the Queen Mary's smoke stack.
Speaking of the Queen Mary, the annual Clickin' Moms ClickinWalk2016 is happening this weekend. I'm signed up and headed to Long Beach on Sunday where the Queen Mary sits. It's always exciting to meet other women photographers & Long Beach is a great port city. I'm hoping to share that little excursion next Thursday.
This is not a photo taken from Long Beach but one of an old abandoned building on Alcatraz.
I wish there were more abandon places to visit around here.
There's just something about run-down, forsaken buildings.

This is the first spring season in 4 years that I won't be rearing Monarch caterpillars. I'm kinda, sorta missing them. I'm hoping in a few years when we retire that I'll get the green house I need to raise these beauties again but in a more controlled environment.
Only four more Fridays til summer vacation-I think the kids even sense that the school year is winding down. This is going to be a "do-over" summer for me as this time last year I had my "girlie" surgery and was laid up my entire vacation recovering.
I've started a list of places I want to go and things I want and need to do. Although, I'm trying to keep the "need to do" list considerably short.
Our youngest is turning 21 this summer & that means a trip to Vegas is in the works.
My daughter and I also started talking about our quartely get together.
I'm hopping over to Kim's and sharing here...

Happy (almost summer) snapping!

Ugh, I enter from PSE 9 to 14 and it's completely throwing me for a loop when it comes to editing! Gotta spend more time on it and figure it out!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there's an easier work flow Kathy-I just haven't discovered yet!
DeleteYay for a new mac! I got the retina display last year and love it. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThe retinal display is amazing-I've been missing a lot over the years! I can't imagine editing without it now!
DeleteYay for your new Mac. I'm starting to get the itch for a larger screen. Right now I'm using my husband's old Surface and let's just say editing pictures on it is not easy.
ReplyDeleteI love abandoned buildings. Old buildings. Old stuff. LOL
I know you miss the Monarchs and I know they're missing you... Hoping you get your greenhouse too.
I say just go for it-it's like getting new glasses and seeing the world through new lenses!!!
DeleteOh Yay, Kelly! A new mac! I so love mine! Your summer sounds so fun and exciting, and your trip to the Queen Mary sounds really fun! I'll look forward to your photos coming from that. Would love to do a walking tour in my area sometime. Enjoy the learning curve of PSE - I haven't upgraded mine since I moved over to CC with PS and LR plan. I like the idea of a retirement Greenhouse!
ReplyDeleteI still toss around the idea to get LR Beverly-especially after watching Kim's tutorials. Have you seen some of the greenhouses on Pinterest? Ohhh my-swoon!!
DeleteUpgrading is always a fun and exciting thing! Abandoned places are fun to explore and photograph. I have caterpillars very late in my autumn garden. I do hope they make it.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see pics of those critters!
DeleteCongrats on the new Mac, it is a wonder isn't it? Love that beautiful butterfly. My granddaughter has 2 more weeks of school and she is beyond excited. Going today to hear her recite Paul Revere's Ride before the whole school and I am excited for that. It is the things in our life like a new Mac, new editing tools that make life so happy. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteHow did your granddaughter do? How exciting!! Thank you Barb for popping in
DeleteCongratulations on a new computer! I agree, old buildings are so photogenic. :) You butterfly image is beautiful. I can see how you would miss them. A list for the summer activities sounds like a good idea. The summer always seems to go so fast once it gets here!
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle-yes-summer buzzes by...that's why I have to make a list. Always happy that you pop in!
DeleteCongrats on a new Mac and the upgrade, Kelly, enjoy !
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos ... love old buildings too !
Hope it will be a great summer vacation :-)
Have a nice week,
Sylvia
Thank you Sylvia...I'm counting down! Always happy when you stop by!
DeleteOh boy...I have been holding off on the new computer, because I don't have the time to sit and re-learn a new device. But good for you! Thanks for sharing about Long Beach and Alcatraz...been there, too! My youngest just turned 21, and just graduated from college. Don't know where the time went, because to me, she is still the baby...and she is all grown up and has just figured out that with the early college graduation, she will now be working for the rest of her life! Oh to "adulting", as she calls it! Aloha Kelly. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteSo your get me...Austin will always be my baby too! It's always interesting when college grads realize that they have to jump over that threshold of childhood into adulthood after college. xo
DeleteA new computer sounds delightful! ANd are we on PSE 14 now? Wow! Hope you have an amazing time on the clickinwalk. That will be a blast!
ReplyDeleteYes Kim!!!! The more I play...the more I love it!!
