Brave the shave...

...chronicles
 no.1

 Sarah over at
has a delicious segment, "The Coffee Shop Chronicles" over on her blog and I hope she doesn't mind if I borrow her idea of a "chronicle" format...but just temporarily. If you read THIS POST then you'll know I've been thinking about braving the shave for the St. Baldrick's foundation. I had a few responsible details to clear with my principal, Victoria first before I share the news. Can I just tell you...not ONLY is she completely onboard and supports me 100%, but the idea of getting dialog started about pediatric cancer among our 700+ families was also met with enthusiasm. If you haven't figured it out yet...
YES! I WILL BRAVE THE SHAVE!
The first thing that will be done is an article in the school paper will be written up about St. Baldricks and what I'm doing. It's very important to let the kids know I am not sick. So often, it is automatically assumed that if you don't have hair, you're sick. I've been at this school for 12+ years...I know a lot of kids and their families.
Next, I had to tell Frankie! I was actually really nervous about telling him. True to himself, this is not something he would do but is happy that I'm excited about doing this. I asked him if would please stand with me and I'd even let him take a swipe with the razor!
Last, I'm registered!
 I'm participant #754780
It all happens March 21st!

This video make me cry...every time.

Until next time...
Happy (head shaving) snapping!
xo

  2. You go, Kelly!!!! I'm proud of you. It's just hair. Right? Are you collecting for any particular organization? If so, let me know and I'll make a donation. And great to use it as an educational tool. Sadly, children need to be taught compassion.

  6. Oh how exciting!!! Good for you and that is awesome that your principal is so on board with the idea. Let me know too if there is someplace that I can donate to. I will happily share the chronicles with you. I will have to see if I can work this into a story, get you a little extra exposure.

  7. My cousin does this for St. Baldricks every year. So I am familiar with the organization and contribute yearly. Kudos to you Kelly! For both your shave AND for opening up dialogue and awareness. And I have a feeling u r gonna rock that shaved head of yours too!

  8. (wiping eyes) . . . I always knew you were an awesome person Kelly, compassionate, kind, thoughtful...but oh my....this....just put it over the top. I can't tell you how many kids I see when we are at the hospital with no hair...because they DO have cancer. Just at our last infusion our station was next to someone else who had a small boy about 2 years old and we could hear the entire conversation about chemo and the steroid treatments. My boy had fallen asleep and I had to go out in the hall and have a good cry. I just can't say enough about how much I admire what you are doing. Love you...Kim XO

You are going to be the sexiest woman with no hair!

  11. Your are BRAVE! Wow! That is a much harder decision for a girl than a boy, we are so much more attached to how our hair looks. I can't wait to hear all about the Big day.
