And so...

...it begins

*Frankie and I do Thanksgiving. It's going to be small family affair. The good news is that everyone we know has someplace to go for the holiday. I'm off this week so I started preparing for the feast. It's not Thanksgiving unless there's stuffing and home made cranberry sauce on the table. This is a long way from the canned stuff I adored as a kid! My secret is a large orange peel, and a squeeze from the orange, a small lemon peel, a splash of Merlot and...as the sauce is cooling a small dash of salt and a quick grind from the pepper grinder...seriously. I love that everyone that comes gets their request made and is lovingly waiting for them when they sit to eat.
I'd love to hear your favorite dish and/or memory for the holiday.
Happy (feasting) snapping!

  1. Oh I love home-made cranberry sauce, just can't do the canned kind. Hmm added Merlot, I will have to consider that. Hope you have a wonderful family Thanksgiving, Kelly. Blessings to you and yours!!

  2. you mean you are supposed to eat it? every year, faithful as clockwork, my grandmother brought homemade cranberry sauce and every year we forgot to put it out with the meal; only discovering it as we put away left overs. (actually know you are supposed to eat it - but never acquired a taste for it - for obvious reasons) lol!

  3. Y'know, I don't think I've ever had a properly prepared cranberry sauce! This sounds so good.... Thanksgiving is all about the Southern-style dressing to me. My mom always used sage in hers and, of course, real cornbread. My brother-in-law lives on the California coast now and can't get the real thing. A friend of his gets on the phone every year with my mother-in-law to try it again (minus the official Southern cornbread). He will be home for Thanksgiving this year, though.

  4. My Mom used to put out quite a spread but what I seem to remember the most was the stuff she put out before the meal. The pitted dates that she rolled in confectioner sugar .... the variety of nuts that you'd hear cracking throughtout the day .... and the smell .... omg .... the smell was to die for! Happy Thanksgiving Sis! ♥
