The final slice...

...of summer
8.15.16

I wanted to post this earlier, like yesterday earlier...really I did. However, it was my last day of summer vacation and with that, my feelings were all over the place. Instead of blogging, I kinda did everything else I could think of to reflect avoid facing what was going on inside my head. I know me and I wouldn't have been able to articulate or make sense out of the jumbled mess in my head.
Today was a pupil free day and it was so wonderful seeing everyone again and
being back at our home school after the relocation.
I had such an enjoyable summer. It was the perfect amount of travel and relaxation. I finished up with a quick trip up to Monterey to visit my aunt, Ms. M.
San Francisco is as far north as I've ever been and
 ~WOW~
what a little slice of heaven the Central Coast is.

California has been in a drought for many years now-I lost count how many times my mouth fell open and uttered how amazing this place was. We sat and had a mini breakfast at
Deetjen's Big Sur Inn. Every cabin is built with milled redwood and named to match its unique personality. The ambiance hasn't changed much in the 70 years the inn has been opened.
The Library

It's no wonder artists and writers come to Big Sur for inspiration.

Wednesday morning, the Mr and I took a short drive out to the coast to visit the Getty Villa.
The villa is home to some 44,000 antiquities that belong to the J.Paul GettyMuseum.
It was a beautiful day spent with my honey.
I just love this little peek-a-boo shot of the ocean.

I didn't get to check everything off my summer list-but I'm ok with that. I'm ready for another school year and plan on ticking off some of those day-cations through out the year.

What's your favorite part of summer? I'd love to know.

Happy (summer) snapping!
xo

  1. It is so lush!! I do not like the summer heat, but I love the light, especially the late afternoon/early evening light as the sun begins to go down. It's so good.

  2. Hi Kelly ... your photos of that beautiful forest are gorgeous! I'm not ready to say goodbye to summer (it's far too short where I live.) However, even though our trees are green and lush, I'm seeing signs that (autumn) is around the corner. And I LOVE autumn so much, it's hard not to rush it. xo

  5. There's a sense of accomplishment in doing the things you set out to do--even if they don't all get done. I love these shots. That fountain is really intricate but I love the old buildings and lights the best.

  7. I can't believe summer is over! It went so quick. My daughter's first day was August 10. My favorite part of summer is sitting on my screened-in-porch with family, friends, or even by myself, listening to all the critters after dark. I can still do that for a while. :) Your trip looks beautiful. My husband and I visited a redwood forest a few years ago. Along with how beautiful the redwoods are, I can remember the smell of 'cedar' when we got out of the car. Truly a magical place.

  8. San Francisco has been on my bucket list forever, the closest I have been is the airport in S.F. The Big Sur area looks fabulous, especially that Inn.

    1. If you ever go to SF, try and avoid sticker shock. It's getting more and more expensive to stay and play. But it is a great place to see. xo

  9. A wonderful wonderful post and what a place to end the summer vacation!I visited San Francisco once but never managed to see the forests. So I have to go again and have breakfast at that delightful inn.

  10. Big Sur is on my short list... along with all the other northern things to see in Cali. Your photos make me want to visit there sooner rather than later.

I am ready for fall, so but it is a bit sad to see all the back to school shots this year. Maybe it is because it is our last year of high school in our household.
