This little girl stayed with me for quite some time. Not all the monarchs I release want to stay and be photographed. But this one did.
~It made me wonder~
I know in my head such small creatures are wired for a very specific calling...
emerge, mate, lay eggs, and then quietly fade away
But my heart says something else.
I like to think there are bigger and more amazing explanations out there,
more than what science tells us-
It's only because it's harder if not impossible to tap into that unknown side.
So there are people like me, that whisper to the ones that stay, unaffected by those who don't feel what I feel
care or even believe.
There is something bigger than me
and it will sit & listen
& gently take it's departure
into the world
leaving me to wonder all the more
Happy (what do you believe) snapping

Deletehow did you manage to capture that shot?! Love it.
ReplyDeletewell, I always have my camera and iphone at the ready when I go to hold the butterfly. You know right away when they climb on you if they are going to stay or use you as jumping off point! So, when the beauties are comfortable, they just hang out and I can take pics of them. It's a pretty magical moment. thank you for asking and commenting. :-)
DeleteThis is so beautiful, Kelly!

ReplyDeleteI thought it was perfect. thank you . :-)
DeleteI love every single thing about this post, Kelly. The photo and editing is more than wall-worthy. It says so much! And the words in your post just blew me away. I think there's more to their lives than what science tells us, too. Butterflies are the metaphor of becoming who we are meant to be, of letting go of the past and emerging stronger and new. And doing all of that while adding beauty to the world. You are one wonderful butterfly mama. Thanks for taking care of something so fragile and allowing all of us to enjoy their amazing transformations and beauty, too.
ReplyDeleteYou are a love an I swear one of my biggest cheerleaders. Thank you for taking time out if your busy day to come and visit! Xo
DeleteBeautiful! Love the image and your editing is perfect!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that you raise monarchs! My 8 year old has 5 painted ladies about to emerge (from a kit your order) she wanted it so badly for her birthday. We get to see monarchs migrate through our place about every other year, one to days of lots of butterflies! It's so awesome! And, I hope you get your dream of the East window, potbellied pig, and farm place!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful image.
